- Who pays the transfer tax when selling?
- In New Jersey the seller usually pays the realty transfer fee. In New York the seller usually pays the state transfer tax, and in New York City also the city transfer tax. This calculator works out the amount from the official rates, and your attorney confirms it. Over $1 million, the New Jersey seller also pays the graduated percent fee.
- Where do I get my mortgage payoff?
- Ask your loan servicer for a written payoff statement. It is different from the balance on your monthly statement because it includes interest up to the payoff date.
